MASTERS SWIMMING

MASTERS REGISTRATION FORM

The CPYM (Crozet PARC YMCA Masters) Program provides organized workouts, stroke instruction, clinics and competitions for adults ages 18 and over. We welcome all adult swimmers (fitness, triathlete, competitive, non-competitive) who are dedicated to improving their fitness through swimming. Our program goal is to help swimmers develop stroke technique, improve fitness, train for specific goals, and provide active support for a healthy lifestyle. With workouts for beginning, slow, medium and fast swimmers, participants should ideally have a basic understanding and competency of the freestyle/front crawl stroke, as well as an interest in developing competency in butterfly, backstroke and breaststroke. No competitive swimming experience is required so come give it a try and experience how effective and fun a coached group swim workout can be.

AQUATICS PROGRAMS FOR YOUTH

LIFEGUARD CERTIFICATION CLASS

Lifeguard Class Registration Form

Preventing an accident and saving a life is worth the hours of training and dedication that is essential to becoming a competent lifeguard. Lifeguards have a responsibility to prevent accidents and handle emergencies properly. It is imperative that lifeguards are physically trained, mentally alert, and have the maturity to safely guard all participants in an aquatic area. To participate in this class you must be at least 15 years of age by the last day of class. Age must be verified with a copy of a government issued document at the time of registration. To participant you must pass the prerequisite swim test. Certifications will not be awarded to those who miss class, cannot adequately perform all assigned skills or pass the written tests with an 80% or better.

The prerequisite swim test is as follows:
• Swim 300 meters using freestyle and breaststroke, showing rhythmic breathing without resting or stopping.
• Swim 20 yards, surface dive to retrieve a 10 pound object from the bottom of the deep end of the pool, kick 20 yards on your back with the object then climb out of the pool. This is a timed skill and must be completed under 1 minute and 40 seconds.
• Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only.
A $40 assessment fee will be charged for those who do not pass the prerequisite skills test.

*WINTER Prerequisite swim test will take place on 1/12 by appointment between 5:00pm-7:00pm.

Crozet PARC YMCA Swim Test Policy

Effective January 1, 2014

Every child under the age of 12 must take the swim test and be accompanied by an adult while in the pool area.

Children who pass the swim test will be issued a green band.

Children who do not pass or opt out of the swim test will be issued a red band.

Children who are wearing a red band must be within arm’s reach of a swimming adult at all times.

The swim test is as follows:

25 meters (one lap) of continuous front crawl or breaststroke, demonstrating good technique and breathing.

15 yards of backstroke.

One minute of treading water. A swimmer’s head must stay above water for the whole time.

All of these test components must be completed at one time and in this order. Swimmers may attempt the swim test once per visit; all other attempts are at the lifeguards’ digression.

SWIM LESSONS

All children in any aquatics programs will have to have a medical form on file with the YMCA.
