Opening / Morning Lifeguards

Maintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Shifts begin at 5:15 am and can go to 9:00 am (possibly end earlier if there is a school schedule conflict) Monday - Friday, also Saturday morning 6:45-9 am.

Swim Lesson Instructors

The Y is a leading nonprofit for strengthening community, and the nation's larger provider of swim lessons to increase skill and safety in and around water. This position provides direct leadership, instruction and motivation for students in swimming classes.

AFTER SCHOOL

YMCA AFTER-SCHOOL TEACHERS

The Piedmont Family YMCA After-School program at Crozet YMCA is hiring part-time staff for their After-School program during the school year. The hours of the after-school program is Monday-Friday from 2:30 PM - 5:30 PM.

Experience: Must be 18 years of age and have completed high school/GED equivalent. One-year experience in YMCA school-aged child care or equivalent preferred. Previous experience working with children is imperative including skills in teaching children, teamwork, program planning, and implementation. The candidate must have experience in a variety of areas including sports, nature activities, arts and crafts, group games, character development, and music/drama. A high degree of physical activity is required. Be able to obtain First Aid and CPR certifications and child abuse clearance.

Requirements: Ability to interact and communicate clearly with all program participants and fellow staff. Responsible for set-up and breakdown of all program supplies and equipment.

Essential Functions: Under the direction of the School-Aged Child Care Director, provide leadership to a group of school-aged children. Lead activities including, but not limited to sports, drama, crafts, homework assistance, fitness, and health. Individual acts as a role model, planning and conducting age-appropriate activities on a daily basiS. Supervises a group of children; plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA values; follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies; maintains positive relations with parents and other staff; attends all staff meetings and trainings. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age; high school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred; at least 6 months of programmatic experience working with children in a day camp setting. Previous experience with diverse populations preferred. Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date; at least one year of experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred. Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities. Previous experience with diverse populations. Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds; Must participate in required in-service training (28 hours).

YOUTH & FAMILY COORDINATOR

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Develops, organizes, and implements high quality YMCA child care programs including licensed after school and summer camp, Stay & Play, and youth programming at the Crozet YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Manages, directs and coordinates the after school, summer camp, Stay & Play and youth programming for the Crozet YMCA. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

2. Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

3. Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected. Supports and budgets for healthy eating through coaching, mentoring, and monitoring menu quality.

4. Assures compliance with federal, state and local regulations as they relate to program areas, including ADA accommodations where appropriate. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures followed.

5. Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures the physical environment supports healthy living.

6. Develops and maintains relationships with state child care licensing agency, school administration, parent groups and other organizations and agencies related to assigned programs. Responds to all agency, parent and community inquiries and complaints in a timely manner.

7. Provides staff leadership for annual fund raising campaign and committees as assigned.

8. Maintains proper records/department files.

9. Organizes special events for parents. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities.

10. Assists in the marketing and distribution of program information.

11. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree in child-related field such as but not limited to, elementary education, nursing, or recreation or three years of programmatic experience including one year in a staff supervisory capacity

2. One to two years’ programmatic experience, as a coordinator or supervisor of child care programs preferred.

3. Minimum age requirement age of 21.

4. Complete required trainings within 30 days of hire include: Child Abuse Prevention for Supervisory Staff; CPR; First Aid; AED; Bloodborne Pathogens.

5. Fulfillment of state-specific training hour standards.

6. Successful completion of background check.

7. Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
the community.
