YMCA water safety programs will save lives this year, but we need your help!

At our Y, we work with local school districts to offer life-saving water safety programs to students thanks to donors like you! Did you know:

  • More children ages 1-4 die from drowning than ANY other cause of unintentional injury death
  • For children ages 5-14, drowning is the second leading cause of unintentional injury death
  • 80% of children who drown were under supervision of some kind

Our Y provides life-saving safety-around-water programming for children and adults at low or no cost to many community members - but we need your help to make it happen!

Thanks to donors like you, the Piedmont Family YMCA's water safety programs are growing.

In 2023, we provided a 1-day safety-around-water program to 383 Louisa County Public Schools 5th graders, free of charge to the recipients.

In 2024 we are planning to provide, free of charge to the recipients:

  • A 5-week swimming lesson program to 400 second-graders from Louisa County Public Schools
  • 1-day safety-around-water program to 400 5th graders from Louisa County Public Schools
  • 1-day safety-around-water program to 360 2nd graders from Charlottesville City Schools*
    • *with a voucher for summer swim lessons for those who cannot pass a benchmark skills test by the end of the program

Support from donors is crucial to help us provide this life-saving programming.

A $50 donation will provide one series of 2nd grade learn-to-swim lessons to a local child.

Please consider a gift to our YMCA so that we can provide life-saving safety-around-water programming in 2024!

All gifts to the Piedmont Family YMCA stay within our local community. Thank you for your support!
