The Brooks Family YMCA works to strengthen the community through personal health and wellness, youth development, and social responsibility. We offer multiple American Red Cross programs that train community members to respond in any emergency and act first until Emergency Services arrive. It is our passion to create a community where all members can help each other in any situation. Below you will find the different training programs we offer throughout the year.
AGE: 15+
AGE: All Ages (Recommended 11+)
The Babysitter's Training and Pediatric First Aid/CPR course provides youth who are planning to babysit with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and responsibly give care for children and infants. This training will help participants to develop leadership skills; learn how to develop a babysitting business to keep themselves and others safe and help children behave; and learn about basic child care. The course also includes first aid and Pediatric CPR.
The Lifeguarding course provides entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services (EMS) personnel take over.
The Lifeguard Instructor course trains participants to teach the basic-level Lifeguarding course. Instructors are expected to demonstrate lifeguarding skills to the standard at instructor-level skill proficiency. By the end of the class, instructors will have learned how to monitor participants' practice, evaluate performance and provide corrective feedback and encouragement that is consistent with the skill assessment tools.
