With school starting soon, you may be wondering how you will work while supporting your child's online education. The YMCA's Virtual Learning Center program offers students a safe and fun place to participate in virtual learning, as well as necessary child care for working parents during the school day. Participants must be enrolled in remote learning through public or private school.
Our first Virtual Learning Center is located at the Brooks Family YMCA in Charlottesville. More details are below. We have a second location at Walker Upper Elementary School serving CCS students. Learn more about the Walker VLC location >
The safety of both students and staff is of the utmost important to us. Safety measures in place will include a mask requirement for both students and staff, consistent pods of 10-12 students with care taken to prevent cross-contamination, frequent sanitizing, and time outside whenever possible. Our spaces comply with state and local guidelines for safety and social distancing.
When online school/ remote learning is completed, students will have time for homework or structured, age-appropriate enrichment activities.
Wi-Fi will be provided to support video chats, streaming media and other online school demands.
Each student should bring:
To the best of your ability, please make sure your student knows how to log in to their school’s website and learning platforms and how to operate their devices and software. Students should dress comfortably.
An enrollment fee of $50 will be due before the program begins. No fee is due at the time of registration.
We have recently adjusted our sliding scale to make the program more affordable. Pricing is the same across both locations.
