Giving back and providing support to our neighbors

Advocacy

3-Year Goals / Objectives:

  1. Attend YMCA National Advocacy Days to support federal advocacy efforts and amplify YMCA of the USA’s legislative priorities with elected officials annually.
  2. Build and maintain relationships with public officials to tell the Y-story, demonstrate impact and advance policies that strengthen community. Create annual advocacy calendar for staff and volunteers.
  3. Partner with VA Alliance of YMCAS to support state-wide initiatives around common purpose.

Measures of Success:

  1. 1-2 public officials will visit our YMCA annually.
  2. 10% increase in funding for early childhood education and school-age programs.
  3. 50% increase in Y-USA action alerts from staff and volunteers.

Board and Staff Development

3-Year Goals / Objectives:

  1. Conduct third-party audit and climate survey of Board performance. Identify gaps in Board demographics and skills matrix. Engage Allied Advisory Group in Board development work, including document repository.
  2. Revise new Board member orientation process, including annual check-ins for all Directors with CEO and CVO.
  3. Continue to implement Y-USA Leadership Competency Model 2.0, including professional development around 16 core competencies.

Measures of Success:

  1. 80% Board and staff retention.
  2. Board and staff will mirror at least 70% of the demographic makeup of the community.
  3. Increase in climate survey results over time.

Volunteerism / Mentoring

3-Year Goals / Objectives:

  1. Inventory all existing and brainstorm new volunteer opportunities and establish a establish centralized job descriptions promote and recruit volunteers.
  2. Establish a volunteer lifecycle to include recruitment, onboarding, training, recognition, retention, and exit survey. Investigate volunteer incentives.
  3. Establish defined partnerships with CAYIP, CATEC, PVCC, UVA, and local school districts to create a volunteer and/or workforce development pipeline, incorporating mentorship opportunities.

Measures of Success:

  1. 10% increase in volunteers and/or mentors.
  2. 50% volunteer/mentor retention in seasonal programs.
  3. 85% of volunteers and mentors report a positive experience.

Remove Barriers for Broad Program Initiatives

3-Year Goals / Objectives:

  1. Expand Learn-to-Swim program for 1,500 second graders in the following school districts: ACPS, CCS, GCPS, and LCPS.
  2. Continue to offer YMCA free summer teen membership for 1,200 teens ages 13-18 in the area during June, July and August.
  3. Partner with CCS and GCPS to offer Summer Academies to 300 students to address remedial education and proactively combat summer learning loss for disadvantaged students.

Measures of Success:

  1. 100% receive financial assistance.
  2. 85% of participants report improved confidence in water, improved social connections, and/or improved academic skills.
  3. 100% of school districts are happy with the partnerships.
